Maldives 2020 (Winter)

For many years we’ve been considering Maldives as a destination.  Given it was one of the few countries without COVID quarantine in late 2020 - the decision was easy.

The Maldivian Archipelago sits on a submarine mountain range in the middle of the Indian Ocean.  It consists of 1,192 coral islands grouped in a chain of 26 atolls, that stretch 871 kilometres.  The Maldives are the world's lowest-lying country, with its highest peak at 5.1 metres!

We stayed 7 nights at a fabulous resort called Vilamendhoo Island.  Our villa was literally 30 steps from the crystal-clear water and another 10m swim to some excellent reef.  The reef encircles the island and is abundant with vibrant marine life.  Some highlights were: black tip reef sharks, lion fish, turtles, noodle fish (flute fish), rays, moray eels, and clown fish.
